CAPTAIN TONY’S BAR & GRILL

Dazzling Drinks, Amazing Meals and Exciting Ambiance

If you want to enjoy eating the best seafood variety in Cabo San Lucas, check out Captain Tony’s.  Situated right on the bustling boardwalk at the marina on the Sea of Cortez, this gourmet giant is a landmark whose marina view offers its own visual feast.
The menu definitely captures the sea. There are seven sea food choices, five chef specials and eight Mexican cuisine picks. There are pizzas, dozens of savoury appetizers, salads and tasty tuna surprises. In fact, here the guys will even cook the fish you hook. BBQ ribs, popcorn shrimp deep fried in beer batter, sashimi and ceviche is only a small part in the line-up of fresh fish platters. Of course, in this menu, you’ll also find lasagna and spaghetti.

Manager,Alejandro Alvarez and me
The manager, Alejandro Alvarez casually pointed out there are 60 drinks – 12 of which are unique Captain Tony concoctions, such as one with dark rum, strawberry, Kalhua, amaretto and strawberry ice cream.
I went for the pina colada with chocolate, just to be “normal” But then I tried Horny Gorilla (rum, vodka, vanilla ice cream and pineapple) On my second visit, I ordered a mojito. Divinely refreshing! Captains Tony’s special: dark rum, strawberry, Kahlua, amaretto and strawberry ice cream.

                                             Fantastic portions with superb taste

Captain Tony's incredible hamburger - the biggest and the best

My Mexican combination platter offered grilled flank steak (arrachera) cheese chile relleno, chicken enchilada, fried beans and rice. It was exciting in every way. Each different part was a splendid taste adventure.

Appetizers were meals in themselves: Here is a sampling

I returned a second time to try Curricanes, a Captain Tony’s original.

Curricanes

This appetizer was beautifully presented. Spicy crab and avocado wrapped in fresh tuna slices – 10 in all – were spiced with serranito, cilantro and oranges sauces. This number was a royal winner.  I loved it.

Just when I thought nothing could surpass the quality and tenderness of this delectable creation, I was greeted with sea bass and tender tiny shrimps wrapped like a present in tin foil.

It was broiled and it benefited from the butter, lime and garlic it was soaked in.  It was heavenly Sliver thin peppers and carrots colored up this sensational dish.

Dessert offered a variety of chocolate and sundry delights.

I was so satiated, I waddled out of Captain Tony’s like a sea lion.

Do not miss this restaurant! It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.

Cantine Sutton Cooks Those Classic Mainstay Meals We All Love

This no frills 18-year-old family-owned restaurant is Sutton’s favourite place for hungry chops. Say hi to co-owners Eric, wife Victoria and her mom, Shirley who you see cooking behind the counter. In fact, Cantine Sutton is so popular, it opens at 5 am and closes at 9:pm. The variety of dishes boggles the eyes and taste buds.  Breakfast is so big here, it has its own menu. The choices are dazzling as is the freshness and care of preparation.

Co-owner, Eric, sums it up: “Whatever we serve, it’s top quality.”

The prices are so ridiculously reasonable, yet the potions are
huge, so trying to pick one dish from the mouth-watering menu is fun: it’s impossible to get bored with food choices here.
In another menu, the amazing variety in the lunch and supper selections dazzle. Like deluxe food billboards, all wall photos exactly duplicate each dish - all specially prepared for the photo shoot. What you see is what you get. Yummie!

There are over 18 kinds of pizza, shrimp with mushrooms, Mexican, barbecue chicken, and pepper steak; plus Cantine is famous for its pizzaghetti, pizzafrites, pizza poutine and pizza Cesar. The pizza is cut in half and in between the second dish sits.

Twenty subs include smoked salmon, roast beef and steak with pepperoni, and BLT. I loved my 12”-roast beef sub that came with every topping imaginable: including, pickles, jalapeƱo peppers, black olives, Swiss cheese and more.

Poutine is on the menu - nine different kinds, along with their hotdogs and burgers (you can get two burgers on Wednesday for a mere $6!

The Cantine special burger caught my eye and captured my taste buds at first bite. It’s made with special melted cheese. It complimented the bacon and the dressings you always crave. A dill pickle, tomato and lettuce with relish brought a symphony of taste, as did the macaroni and coleslaw served on the plate. I also had their fresh cut, freshly made French fries – all home made – as every dish is here.

I returned every day, feasting on gyros and salads. Their Caesar salad dressing is fantastic: garlic, yoghurt, Dijon mustard and egg yoke. Victoria revealed the alternate pouring of simple ingredients  creates a very smooth soft dressing. The honey in the dressing really gives it a sweet zing.

Cantine Sutton is super friendly, informal and unstressed. Best thing is every dish is delivered to your table within minutes.

Huge portions!

I loved their automatic soft drink select-and-touch-screen machine. Aside from all your favourites, you can get Doctor Peppers in three different flavours: cherry, vanilla and strawberry! Their ice cream also is a flavour fest. And if biting into a dessert, try their different homemade cookies and banana bread.

MIDTOWN CAFE: A HIDDEN HAPPENING HUB IN MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE

George Lawrence owns this central popular foodie nook, along with seven Red Arrow Restaurants in New Hampshire; one is right here in Manchester – a cute diner just up the street from Midtown CafĆ©. In fact, this hard working septuagenarian business man is so energetic, every morning, he strides into his office, located in the opulent, beautiful Beacon Building which he also owns. Its sleek interior houses the Midtown Cafe.

With 600 employees working for his corporation restaurant “empire”, George knew his people needed a really convenient place for his people to duck into, pick up a coffee, leafy green salads, sandwiches and other healthy wholesome goodies.  So he opened up the Midtown CafĆ©. Although it closes at 2 pm, his Red Arrow Restaurants - renowned for its oversized portions - are open 24/7.
There’s nothing like starting your morning with great coffee, a complete egg breakfast - there’s even a breakfast burrito. But for my money, I made Midtown’s amazing huge freshly baked muffins my morning staple.

Best is, Midtown CafĆ© has a variety including cranberry and orange, lemon, and blueberry. They’re exciting and addictive. Cookies are also baked on the spot. In fact, all preparations happen right before you.  With a great assortment of breads, sandwiches are never boring.  Eight different savory kinds satisfy with filling variety. For example,

The delectable “Nynex” is filled with turkey, Swiss cheese, avocado, spinach, hummus and tomato embodies the generous factor in every serving, including soups, paninis, B.L.Ts  and the unique turkey club with quality apple wood bacon. served on the bread you wish.

I loved the barbecue chicken George recommended I order on a Wednesday. Pretty tasty!
There are lots of tables to eat at inside, but I gravitated to the the outdoor tables just outside the cafe where a group of male friends meet almost every day. They invited me to join them. I not only had great food at this perfect little cafĆ©, but also lots of laughs.  Such friendliness marks Midtown CafĆ©. It’s an edible gem.

Midtown CafƩ is located at 814 Elm Street inside the Beacon Building.
